| The meetings that take place on the third Sunday of each month is time set aside to crochet for charity. All of our projects remain local and are given to charities and people in need in our community. Using the concepts of the WarmUp America! Foundation, the group crochets 7x9" rectangles then sews or crochets them together to form blankets and lapghans which will be distributed locally in the fall. If you'd like to take part in this effort, please join us for any of our charity crochet meetings. All you need to get started is some crocheting knowledge and a hook. If you can't attend any of the meetings, you can still donate rectangles and/or yarn to the cause. Use the Contact Page for information on how to get in touch with us. Don't know how to crochet but still want to help? Someone may be able to help get you started. Or if you knit, knitted rectangles are acceptable as long as they are 7x9" in size. If you embroider, you can add an embroidered touch to the blankets. Or you can help sew the pieces together. The more help we have, the more blankets we can create, and the more warmth we can share in the colder months. We also crochet hats & scarves, lapghans, and stoma bibs, which we will donate to the Topeka VA Hospital in the fall. Some of our items will also go to Let's Help. Other opportunities include crocheting items for various auctions in the community, such as the Race Against Breast Cancer, Bone Appetit, and the Girl Scouts, which helps these organizations raise money for their causes. Our group crocheted over 200 finger puppets which we donated mostly to the Topeka Zoo for their Dream Night, which is an event held in June for critically or terminally ill children (and some adults) and their families. Several of us also volunteered at this event and had a lot of fun doing so. Our goal is over 200 little stuffed animals for the 2010 event.
